Beautiful Colour Choices for Painting your Front Door

Hi Everyone
Thanks for checking out my blog.  As I'm writing this blog it is -17C and snowing out (yes it's the middle of March 😆) so I've decided that I'm going to write a blog that hopefully inspires spring to come soon.
With everything going on in the world right now I know we can all use a break from the bad news so this blog is just a chance for you to look at some pretty, painted front doors.
Picking a paint colour for your front door can be a great way to add that little something, something to your exterior.  It's like adding that perfect pair of earrings to a great outfit 😁.   Painting your front door shows your personality before even entering your home.  Like the interior though, I think it's great to bring whatever colour you use on your front door in one other application, whether it's in landscaping or accents on the front porch.

Red

Years ago painting your front door red meant "Welcome" in early American tradition.  In Scotland homeowners would paint their front door red to signify that they had paid off their mortgage.  Red front doors continue to be a classic colour choice.

This beautiful red front door belongs to a client I had the opportunity to work with last summer on an exterior update.  The door colour is Sundried Tomato by Sherwin Williams.

Yellow

According to the experts 😏 a yellow front door means you are confident, curious, wise and humorous.  It's hard to look at a yellow front door without smiling.  Even on a cold, snowy day it make make your exterior look a little brighter.

Black

Black is a colour that symbolizes order and control.  A black front doors tells people that you are sophisticated and authoritative 👮.  Black is a classic and timeless choice for a front door (and yes black is a colour 😄).  Black works well with almost every other colour so it makes it a versatile colour choice.

There are so many different options to consider when choosing a blue door - there's navy blue, light blue, robin's egg blue etc.   Depending on the shade you use, a blue front door can mean you are prosperous and positive or calm and grounded.

Green

A green front door signifies that you hold traditional values and that you are a solid member of the community.  Green commonly signifies growth and prosperity.  Regardless if any of the above is true it's just a pretty colour for a front door and is a great tie in to your landscaping.

Technical Stuff

There are just a few things you should know if you are considering painting your front door:
  • Remove hardware if possible
  • Wash off the dust and grime from your door
  • Use a primer for best coverage if painting with a darker colour
  • If painting only the exterior of the door ensure you also paint the hinged side
  • Ensure you check the instructions on the paint can for the ideal temperature ranges
There are so many colour options available but here are just a few of my favourites.

If you need help picking a colour for your front door or anywhere else in your home I'd love to help you out.  I've recently set up an Etsy shop or you can just go to my website.  For a limited time I'm offering a 10% savings.
