Is Brown the New Black?

Image
Hi Everyone Thanks for checking out my blog today.  If you had a chance to check out my previous blog  you may have noticed the trend is towards warmer colors, brown being one of them.  I read a quote recently that "brown was the new black" and while I'm not sure I agree with that statement πŸ˜‰brown is certainly becoming a popular color again.  While I don't adhere to the policy of ensuring your home is on trend, I thought we would delve into into the world of browns just for fun. According to www.verywellmind.com " Brown  is a natural color that evokes a sense of strength and reliability. It's often seen as solid, much like the earth, and it's a color often associated with resilience, dependability, security, and safety."   I've certainly noticed a shift in my color consultations with brown becoming a popular choice again.  Thankfully it's not the same brown of the 70's and 80's but a more mature, sophisticated brown. In my opinion i...

2021 Colors of the Year

Image
Hi Everyone Well we made it through 2020 and we are now onto bigger and brighter πŸ‘things for 2021!  Today I wanted to share with you the color trends for 2021 by the major paint companies.  As you go through the different palettes you may start to notice the trend is towards warmer, earthy colors and a shift away from cooler colors.  I have to admit I've always been more of a fan of the warmer colors, I think they are easier to live with especially in our part of the country as we see so much snow and cold without adding it to our interiors.  I think by adding gray to these warmer tones, it makes them current in today's homes.  Without further ado here are the color trends by 3 major paint companies for 2021. Sherwin Williams I'm going to start with Sherwin Williams as these are the colors I work with most when doing colour consultations.  For 2021 Sherwin Williams announced Urbane Bronze as their COTY.  "Tap into nature with a hue whose warmth...

Sherwin Williams Color of the Year 2021

Image
Hi Everyone Thanks for checking out my blog today.  This time of the year is a favourite of mine, not only do I love the autumn colors but it's also that time of the year when major paint companies start announcing their Color of the Year (COTY). Source Sherwin William COTY 2021 For 2021 Sherwin Williams announced their COTY as Urbane Bronze SW 7048.  I am definitely on board with this color choice for 2021 and beyond.  Urbane Bronze could be best described as a dark brown/gray.  Depending on how you see color it may even lean towards a black for you. This sultry, rich color has a green undertone and has an LRV of 8 so it's definitely a dark color.  Just keep in mind when I mention undertones, depending on your lighting, you may not notice it at all (I have to as that's my job 😊).  I have noticed a shift to more earthy, warm colors in my color consultations so this choice definitely makes sense. “The home is now the ultimate retreat from the world, and col...

Exterior Paint Colour Makeover

Image
Thanks for checking out my blog today - it's going to be a short one but well worth checking out.  Can you believe summer is almost over already!?  It's been a busy season for exterior color consultations (both online and onsite) and I wanted to share just one of my favourite color transformations from this year.    When I initially got to my client's home for the consultation - truth be told - they wasn't even sure if they wanted to change the color.  Their home is a beautiful craftsman, in Calgary, that is over 100 years old.  The owners knew it needed to be painted but weren't sure if they were ready to change the color.  While it was a beautiful home I knew that a color change would could really bring it to a whole other level.  They had recently changed the stone on the home and my thoughts were that a darker, richer color would really pull it altogether.  Here is what it looked like before the paint color makeover. My 4 Favourite Warm Grays by Sherwin Williams

Image
Hi Everyone Thanks for checking out my blog.  Today I wanted to share with you 4 of my favourite warm gray paint colours.  These paint colours are all Sherwin Williams as those are the colours I generally work with on my consultations.   Now I know what you are thinking - there is no such thing as a warm gray 😏.  And don't get me wrong - a warm gray is still going to be gray, which is technically a cooler colour.  In this blog when I'm referring to a warm gray, I'm not referring to the undertone but what makes these grays warm is that the have some amount of beige or brown in them.  I'm sure you've heard the term "greige" (gray+beige) and everyone has a different take on what is a greige so I'm simply going to refer to these following paint colours as warm grays. With the neutral colours it's important to be able to detect the undertone to ensure it will work with your existing furnishes.  When choosing a neutral colour (such as a warm gray) you ...
